The Guest House is a beautiful meaningful poem about the way we treat our own body. Through some metaphors Jellaludin Rumi wrote about the way we should face negativism. In a time Humankind is getting aware of the importance of proper self care time, connection with nature, spirituality and mindfulness, this is a powerful poem we should read with a deep interpretation.

As singers I consider important the way we behave, the way we treat ourselves and respect our voice. Having I mindful attitude will help living our careers in plenitude and accept the inherent difficulties.

Hope you find some inspiration:

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond. – by Jellaludin Rumi (translation by Coleman Barks)
