RI-TE COMO JACQUES

Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of French composer Jacques Offenbach, Plateia Protagonista and trio À la Joie! pay tribute to one of the great figures of comic opera/ operetta.

In this staged concert, a great challenge is proposed to the audience - to travel through music as Offenbach traveled through life: laughing, laughing at himself, laughing with and at others.

His work shows us a musical, literary, and artistic world that influenced countless composers - some of whom will be invited to join in this revelry. It is in Offenbach that we find the classic and eternal lovers Orpheus and Eurydice now bored and annoyed by being confined to a long life as a couple.

Greek and Roman mythology and some of their charismatic episodes are accompanied by the solemn tone of a castrating Public Opinion that tries to maintain order among erratic Gods and capricious Mortals.

Here laughter is free and seriousness is not confused with profundity: Opera is for everyone and we address it on first-name terms.
